Yet another service for spraying self-indulgent content across the
ether in the hope of fame & fortune - although I’m not sure yet how
the latter might work. It’s just what the world needs - a mechanism that
makes it even easier for the average web user to pollute verbally.
I used to have a theory about the message & the market. Once upon
a time, all writing was rather well considered & well produced, on
the basis that reproductions were difficult. Even with movable type, the
audience was still limited due to the need to be educated. This meant
that the audience demanded exceptional writing & presentation -
literary works of art - to be held for posterity.
Now, with the web, almost anyone can access content, & almost
anyone can create it. Time & again, people have proven that no level
of education is required in either case.
I can’t help feeling that we’ve lost something along the way.
